Gates To The Musjid Of The Nabi(Saw),Which Is Located In Medina

Hadith Of The Day
September.21.2005

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘The example of a believer is like that of a date palm, every part of it is of benefit to you.’ This Hadith has been classified as Sahih (authentic) by Hafiz ibn Hajar (RA)

Commentry

The Ulama, in the light of this and other Ahaadith - have explained that a date palm is such that benefit is derived from it at all times. While it is alive and standing on its roots (by the different types of dates that it bears, in fact the date palm begins bearing dates from the very beginning stages) and as well as when it is dead and uprooted. Every portion of it is used up, i.e. the seeds of the dates are crushed and used for fodder, the leaves for the making of ropes, the bark for wood, etc. Similarly a Muslim, people benefit from his knowledge, his good character and truthful dealings while he is alive and his charitable works as well as his knowledge even after he leaves this world. People still act upon what he taught them and what they learn from his books and writings. One of the lessons to be derived from this Hadith is the benefit of explaining something through an example for a clearer understanding and the permissibility of testing students to gauge their level.

Here Are Some Other Hadiths (Sayaings) Of The Prophet(Saw)

1.) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Leave the food to cool for hot food has no blessing.’ (Majma’ul Awsat of al-Tabrani, see Majma’uz Zawaaid vol.5 pg.20 also see al-Mataalibul Aaliyah vol.3 pg.65)

Commentry

This Hadith is further supported by a Hadith graded as Sahih (authentic) by Imaam Hibbaan which is as follows: When Sayyidatuna Asmaa bint Abu Bakr (Radhiallaahu Anhuma) used to cook Thareed (a special type of food), she used to cover it a while till the steam stopped, then she used to say, ‘I heard Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying, ‘Verily it is greater in blessing.’ (Saheeh ibn Hibbaan vol.7 pg.321)

2.) Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Three things should not be delayed; The Salaat when it’s time has set in, the Janaaza Salaat when the deceased is prepared and present and the marriage of an unwedded woman when her Kufu (match) is found.’ (Tirmidhi; Mustadrak Hakim vol.2 pg.162)

Commentry

Imam Haakim and Haafiz al-Dhahabi have graded this Hadith as Sahih (authentic).

3.) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra (Radhiallaahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘When any of you are invited (for meals) he should attend. If he is not fasting he should partake of the meals and if he is fasting he should make Du’aa for that person.’ (Sahih Muslim Hadith3506)

Commentry

One should not break his fast for this reason as it is Makrooh to do so. (Shaami vol.2 pg.328-329)

4.) Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said, ‘that person who has an iota of pride will not enter Jannah.’ (Sahih Muslim vol.1 pg.25).

Commentry

Since this is something to do with a person’s intention of the heart, and as such it is hidden from mankind, it would be difficult to determine the intention of people. Furthermore, the assumption of wearing the pants below the ankles not remaining a symbol of pride does not affect its Karaahat (abhority) due to the fact that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) has said, ‘Do not lower your garments (over your ankles), for verily, this is because of pride.’ (Sahih ibn Hibbaan Haith522)

Thus, it is established that this is in itself an act of pride and sin, and it will remain so through out time. In yet another narration, recorded in Sahih ibn Hibbaan, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) has informed us that, ‘Verily Allah does not love those who lower their garments below their ankles.’ Hafiz ibnul Arabi (RA) says that it is not permissible for a person to lower his pants over his ankles and claim that he has no pride due to the fact that the prohibition by Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is general. He also states that such an act is, in fact, an indication of his pride. Hafiz ibn Hajar (RA) has also attested to this in his renowned work of Fathul Baari (vol.10 pg.325)

5.) Sayyiduna Abu Sa’eed al-Khudriy (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘No two men should go to the toilet, exposing their private parts and speaking to each other. For verily, Allah Ta’ala hates such an action.’ (Abu Dawud vol.1 pg.10; Ibn Maajah Hadith342)

Commentry

This Hadith has been graded as Hasan (sound) by the Muhadditheen. (Refer to al-Mirqaah vol.2 pg.68, Ilmiyah)

6.) Sayyiduna Anas ibn Maalik [Radhiallaahu anhu] reports that Rasulullah [Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam] said, ‘The inability to weep is due to committing excessive sins. That is due to not fearing Allah which results in the hardness of the heart. The hardness of the heart is caused by the love of the world.’ (Musnadul Firdaws vol.4 pg.402; Hadith6690)

Commentry

Note: The chain of narrators for this Hadith is quite weak. (Tanzihu-shari’ah vol.2 pg.314). However, the broader meaning of this Hadith is supported through other traditions.

7.) Sayyiduna Abu Sa’eed al-Khudriy (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) prohibited from blowing into any drink. (Tirmidhi vol.2 pg.11)

Commentry

This Hadith has been graded as Hasan Saheeh (sound and authentic) by Imaam al-Tirmidhi.

8.) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Treat your women with affection. Verily, the woman is created from the rib. The most crooked rib is the upper one, if you try to straighten it, you will break it.’ (Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith3331)

Commentry

On the commentary of this Hadith, the commentator of Sahih al-Bukhari, Hafiz ibn Hajar [ra] states that this Hadith indicates to the creation of Hawwaa [alayhas salaam] from the left rib of Aadam (Alayhis salaam) which is in accordance to a narration recorded by Imaam Muhammad ibn Ishaaq [ra]. (see Fathul Baari vol.6 pg.454 Hadith3331)

9.) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:"The Fire is veiled by indulgence of appetites and the Garden is veiled by things people dislike."
